I am someone who has never taken a Spanish class. I've heard French and Spanish are similar and while I've taken French classes all the way up to grade 12 I wouldn't say it was time well spent. I'm going to Peru for three weeks in August and I would love to have some understanding of Spanish. I'm from Saskatoon, but I am taking summer courses at the University of Victoria from May till August 7 and it is during this time that I would love to take classes. I will dedicate as much time as I can to learning Spanish. I think my weakness will be on conversation and speaking as I'm pretty self conscious but I promise to try my best.

I took 50 hours of Spanish instruction at a language school in Guatemala aprox 3 years ago. I have a basic understanding and can get by (barely) with day to day activities and questions. I am applying for Master's programs in International Relations with a focus on conflict resolution or diplomacy and a second language is not needed but will be beneficial. I am looking for conversationa l Spanish improvement and would like to spend a minimum of 2-3 hours a week and a max of 6 - 8.
