I would like to learn to speak Brazilian Portuguese so I can speak to my boyfriend's family in Brazil.
I can understand some portuguese, but very little only and mostly type.
I am definitely a beginner.
I am looking for a very patient teacher and one that is positive and willing to teach me what I want to learn.

I am planning to travel to Brazil in January 2012 for one year. I will be volunteering there. I will have classes available once I arrive there but having already done one exchange like this I think I would like to learn some of the language first. I would like to learn as much as possible. I have so far learned basic things such as some numbers, articles, conjugating regular and irregular verbs. I would like to start learning the language more conversationa lly as I think learning the grammar only gets me so far... I can dedicate a few hours one or two days a week to my lessons, but of course I know I will be practicing even while I'm not in class. I am looking for an open and communicative teacher, someone who makes the lessons interesting.
