Description |
I am a beginning learner of Japanese who, along with my fiancee (also a beginner) would like to expand our knowledge of the Japanese language to coincide with our increasing interest with Japanese modern pop culture and historical culture. We have a trip to Japan in the works after we're married and would like to make sure we miss out on as little as possible by decreasing the language barrier.
W e would like to study as many parts of the Japanese language as possible (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension ), and will likely supplement our lessons with extensive home study with other materials. Our interest in an instructor is due to our belief that human interaction is important while learning, and that proper direction from another person can be a great motivator in the learning process.
W e'd like to meet for 1-2 hours per session 1-2 times a week. Although there are some exceptions, we are mostly very flexible with our schedules. We are looking for an instructor with first hand knowledge of the Japanese language and culture who can offer deeper insight into the language and provide us with goals, guidance and direction.

Description |
I lived in Japan for a year and a half, but I had no prior training before I left. I learned a lot while I was there and can speak casual conversation, but I need practice! I also would really like to expand my vocabulary.
I am learning Japanese because I don't want to forget what I worked so hard to learn already.
I would probably just want an hour or two a week.
I would like something convienient and cheap. I work in Baltimore and live in Owings Mills, so anything close to either of those places would be a plus.

Description |
The proficiency level which I am at would probably be considered as Intermediate+ . I have successfully completed two years of college Japanese credit courses ( 101 thru 202. My daytime hours are dedicated to running a small business, therefore there are no further advanced classes available to me on the collegiate level.
My interest in continuing to learn the Japanese language is for more personal improvement.
Conversatio n is the area in which I would like to improve my language capability. At this time, I am already dedicating two to three hours per week for self-study with an additional two hours of joint class time shared with two other fellow students once a week. We hold classes at each others homes once a week on a rotating basis and have done so now for over a year. We are focusing on reading Japanese and are utilizing the text by Jorden and Chaplin titled 'Reading Japanese'. C urrently re-reading Lesson 14 after a self imposed break.
I believe that two hours per week could continue to be dedicated to class time. The amount of study hours necessary would depend upon the lesson difficulty. Japanese is a very different language which is interwoven tightly within the fabric of the Japanese culture. There are many important nuances within the language which are necessary for non-stressful and polite communication to occur. A sensei who understands the depth and sensitivity of the Japanese language and who is willing to put up with a student who will make many mistakes but promises to try their very best would be highly desirable.
