Hello, I am a final-year medical student and am teaching myself Japanese because I will be studying at a Japanese medical school this spring. My grammar level is high-intermed iate or so, and my Kanji knowledge is about 400 (goal is 500+ by end of 2004). My listening and speaking skills are not good, though, as there is nobody with whom to practice conversation. So, I am seeking a teacher (preferably a native Japanese speaker) who can focus on conversation and help me to increase my listening and speaking fluency, especially as I will be interacting with medical patients when I am in Japan. I would like to spend 1-2 hours a week on lessons (in addition to any homework) and will be in Baltimore through mid-March.

Hi, my name is Terri and I am a beginner. The languuage I want to learn is Japanese and Korean. The reason why is because I want to be able to sing in different languages. I would start at beginning level. My mother came into the U.S. in the 50's from Japan and had a very difficult time because her English was limited. During the 50's in was, to her, very important that I be very 'American'. So, japanese was not spoken to me, just English. I would like to learn the language enough to make my Mother happy and go to Japan.
I work full time 9 - 5 Monday - Friday. Looking for a teacher who can teach after work. Weekends are difficult.
