I've worked with a variety of different textbooks, but in general I like to design material to fit the student's specific needs. I study languages in addition to teaching English, so that gives me insight into the problems that students encounter and the bad habits that keep them from overcoming those problems. My approach is different from many English teachers: I don't think language can be learned by memorizing! I prefer to challenge my students to think critically about English, to analyze the language and to practice as much as possible. |

The object of these tutorials is to promote not only knowledge, but also a love of whatever subject a child may be studying. When learning a new language it can seem intimidating intially however what I do is start at the level where you are at. I, then work with a road map throughout the course for your specific needs. I feel it is important to show you where you are and where you are headed. We set the foundation and once we master it we elevate to a level of learning how to read, write and speak the language on a proficient level. I use what is called the Total Physical Response Storytelling (TPRS) method, which mirrors the way one learns their native language. In lieu of beginning by teaching grammar concepts, I emphasize language acquistion through sheltered immersion. Once a solid base of vocabulary is established, the concepts of grammar are explored. It is the easiest, most effective and fun way to learn a language! |
