I normally begin by eliciting as much information from the student about why they need to learn the language, how much experience they have had with it, what goals and objectives they have set for themselves in their language studies, etc etc etc so that i can understnad how I can best plan a teachign strategy that would suit the student's individual learning needs.

I was born and lived the first 31 years of my life in Russia (in a Siberian city called Omsk); it was very recently that I immigrated to the USA (I married an American man, and we are now living in Cockeysville, MD)
I graduated from Omsk Teacher Training Univeristy with MA in Education and Linguistics, with qualification s enabling me to teach English (and German, which was my 2 foreign language at the university) college/unive rsity level.
And during the years 1996-2206 I did just that -- I worked at Omsk State Univeristy, teaching English to Foreign Languages Dept. students majoring in English.
A longside my university teaching, I was also giving private lessons to both children and adults, and enjoyed that immensely -- it is a kind of teaching setting that's very different from university: you interact with only one student, and focus on their individual learning needs, and plan classes according to their individual learning style (both strenghts and weakness areas), and it is so exciting and rewarding to see each individual student make progress and develop over time both in their language proficiency, and as a person (with many students that I tutored, it was a year and longer that we had classes, and it made it a very special experience for me to see how they grew in confidence both in the language, and in how they stood in life!)

in 2004-2005 was employed by several companies in Omsk to work for them as translator/in terpreter as well as English teacher /instructor for the companies' personnel and management staff

In the years 2003-2006 attended several professional development courses in Omsk and St Petersburg (Russia)
I n year 2005 attended a program for additional vocational education for linguists (St Petersburg Institute of Foreign Languages)
In years 2003-2005 participated in a joint Russian-Briti sh educational project for teachers/educ ators aimed at developing a teacher training/deve lopment course in teaching ESP.
