My name is Heather Thistle, I am very interested in learning how to speak, read, write, and, understand Portuguese because I have future plans of being an elementary school teacher in Portugal. I am currently graduating this year from York University, and I plan to travel overseas to gain experience in teaching English in foreign countries. I believe that having a foundation of Portuguese before I begin teaching in Portugal will not only help me understand and help me relate to people; but will also all me to maximize my interaction with the children to help them learn English. Learning a foreign language is not only a passion but also a career advancement since in the future I would like to become a translator/in terpreter. My Italian proficiency would be at an intermediate level whereas my German would be at the very beginning.
For my Italian I would love to improve on my grammaer and oral skills.
For my German, on the other hand, I would love to learn everything from Grammar to conversation to vocabulary and so forth.
Since I'm currently in University and I'm already juggling five courses I would like to say that I want to dedicate at least one to two times a week but it may change depending on my course load.
The qualities that I seek in a teacher and a lesson is clear explanations about grammar, patience, activities in which I can practise and apply what I have learned and some background knowledge about the culture to further understand the make-up of the language.
