I am interested in attending graduate school in Japan for jazz studies and wish to learn to better speak and read the language. I have been learning some grammar and vocabulary through an app called Renshuu but aside from that I'm fairly new. My name is Jay and I'm currently at beginner Japanese. I want to teach English abroad in Japan through the JET program, but there's not a very clear or concise road map to learning the language. So far I've been studying through Tae Kim and Genko I - II second edition, but a lot of the general information provided to me doesn't seem to flow together as eloquently as I expected it to.

I will be in Osaka, Japan for the summer. My profiency level is probably beginner. I know hiragana and almost no kanji. I am starting graduate school in the Fall (2009) and need to complete a language requirement by then. I am looking for intensive training where I relearn the basics while also working on Japanese to English translations for the sake of research.
I am willing to spend a lot of time on this in July and August. I envision about three hours a day.
