I want to learn Japanese to be able to understand the things i love. I listen to Japanese music and like to play games that only came out in Japan. I am currently studying Computer science and would love to use that to maybe work abroad. I want to be able to read, speak and write. Kanji is what I would like to focus on. I would like to at least work 1 day of week and follow up every week after of what i learned. I would like to learn Japanese with stuff that interest me.

こんにちは! ! I have tried over a few years to learn and retain Japanese, but with gaps in time and not having ways to practice the language, I continue to lose what little progress I make. I have had a personal desire to be able to speak the language for a decade, but have more incentive recently, as my long-term partner is half Japanese with family living in Japan that we may finally get a chance to visit within the next year or so. I would love to make a good impression and be able to speak with them. I also know learning this language would broaden my ability to meet new people.
As of right now I am a beginner and know I can at least dedicate an evening a week to a session with a teacher. After feeling things out I can assess time to set aside as I continue. I am hoping to find a teacher than can help me with learning how to have conversation mostly and some basic writing so I can read signs and such in Japan. I do have some books to work in in between lessons, such as the Genki workbook.

I like the language and I would like to re-visit Okinawa, Japan sometime in the near future again. I was once stationed on the island for several years and I got to know some local people. I've taken some college courses many years ago and forgotten most if not all of what I learned. Therefore, I need a lot of help with conversationa l Japanese with a heavy inefficient on the Okinawan dialog. I'm ready to commit to a minimum of 4-6 per week.
