Hi, I'm Ari. I'm a native English speaker and I just returned from living in Nara, Japan. I don't want to lose my Japanese, and I'm trying really hard to pass the JLPT level 2 as soon as I can, so I'd like a tutor or lessons to help me stay on track.
I'm not sure if I'm at the intermediate or advanced level in my Japanese. I can read kana and a few hundred kanji. I can hold conversation and understand most of what is said to me. I mostly need to improve my fluency, grammar, and I need to learn enough kanji to pass the JLPT 2.
I can dedicate as much time as you can to teaching me! I'm looking for only native speaking teachers.

I am looking for a teacher or a language program to help me along with my private study of Japanese. Learning a language independently creates a lot of barriers, so I would like a teacher to be the one guiding me.
I am still at a beginner level, and I would like to be fairly proficient within approximately two years, to enable me to become an English teacher in Japan once I graduate.
Since I am a college student, I would prefer to have my lessons either between two school classes (I have a 3 hour break several days a week), after school (in the evenings), or on weekends.
I am looking for a teacher who is strict, but not one that will get angry, or laugh at me for being wrong, or not turning in my homework. Someone that is easy to talk to and get along with would be best. Experience is a must, of course. References would be appreciated, but they are not necessary.

I am a beginner in the Japanese Language. I only know a few words and can recognize a few symbols.
I am interested in learning Japanese because I would like to go to Japan for a year as an English teaching aid. I am also looking to learn Japanese to advance my business career.
Si nce I am a beginner, I need to work in all areas. Since my goal is to actually go to Japan, I will need more than conversation skills. I will also need reading and writing skills.
I am willing to dedicate several hours a week to learning.
I am looking for a Japanese speaker that has Japanese as their native language. It would be nice to find someone that has lived there. That way I can discuss customs also.
I am limited on the amount of funds that I can provide a tutor so I would like to keep the actual classes to once a week via phone and have a set of lessons emailed to me that I can work on for the week and discuss during the phone conversation. I say phone because I live quite far from any large cities. The closest large town near me is Lumberton, NC (25 miles north). Myrtle Beach, SC is approximately 60 miles south of me.
I will not be able to actually start classes until March 2009, due to the lack of funds. I am planning to learn Hiragana and Katakana between now and then though.
