I am a complete beginner in Korean. Though I can read hangeul almost fluently and have a basic understanding of sentence structure, I have no vocabulary. My university does not offer any Korean classes, so I have had to resort to self-teaching through books.
I have also been studying Japanese for three years (not counting a couple years of self-taught failure in high school) and am going to Kyoto for one semester this March. I consider myself an intermediate student with a good vocabulary and grammar but poor conversationa l skills.
I study these languages for the simple reason that they appeal to me. Though I am interested in many other languages, such as Swedish, Romanian, Italian, and Thai, my goal is to first become fluent in Japanese and Korean before moving on. I am very interested in linguistics.
I prefer a teacher who will not gloss over the difficult parts of the curriculum; can teach effectively; and moreover is amiable enough to be almost a friend throughout my studies.

I have been studying Mandarin Chinese at school for two years now. I've studied Japanese independently for a while, but I would especially like a tutor to help me with it because I find it difficult.
