I am capable of holding a few short and simple conversations . What I need is lots of vocabulary and sentence structures. I also very much want to learn to read and write Chinese characters. I can recognize maybe 100 basic characters, but I have never practiced writing so I can't write them very well, if at all. I'm also open to the idea of learning Cantonese someday, but I want to focus on retaining my current knowledge of Mandarin and increasing it. I would prefer one-on-one tutoring as I learn at my own pace. I usually ask a lot of questions based on what I want to know how to say, so I hope that any time-based curriculum is loose and open. I currently do not have a set schedule, so I would like to schedule a common time to meet with a teacher to see if we are right for each other. I am very eager to hear from native speaking teachers of Mandarin living in Philadelphia.
