I don't have one set reason for learning Mandarin. A large motivator for me is the job applications it has for someone who wants to do international business. However, I also love China as a country, and may want to live there at some point in my life. I just returned from a summer studying in Shanghai, and prior to that had only had one year of Chinese language study (my freshman year at college). I want a tutor/teacher to help me maintain my speaking and writing level while I'm at home for the next three weeks (before returning to college, where I'll start taking classes again). I would like to do maybe an hour or hour-and-a-ha lf every two days. I value teachers that are amicable and creative with their lessons, but at the same time focused on learning and not easily distracted. Conversing in Chinese would be valuable for me, just to keep the language fresh in my mind.

It is my intention to arrange a private Chinese tutor for my 6 year old son because I view knowlege of Chinese as an advantage for him in his future.
He will be an absolute beginner so tuition has to be tailored to suit his needs with the aim of providing him with a foundation for continuing his studies towards fluency in written and spoken Chinese.
Ini tially, lessons should take place once a week outside normal school hours.
Teach er should have the ability to engage a young learner whose attention span is limited, so I imagine that motivation will be achieved through 'fun' activities.
The objective of lessons is to impart basic skills in reading, writing and spoken Madarin Chinese.
