I am a complete beginner with no background whatsoever looking to start from the ground up. I want to learn a new language and mandarin seems like the most logical choice from almost any standpoint.
I would like to find a tutor who can meet from 1-3 times a week in the evenings and who can at least start teaching in English. I understand that learning in the language is far more effective but since I have NO background they should be able to speak English.

I need to learn a reasonable amount of mandarin Chinese before the 16th of June, 2011.
I am traveling to china with my girlfriend on this date to meet her parents and as they don't speak any English I need to learn enough Chinese to see me threw the trip.
I do work, but only 3 days a week, or 4 days at most for now.
my usual days off would be either a Monday, Tuesday, or a Saturday.
The teacher I'm looking for would have to be patent and able to teach me as much as possible with-in the few months I have.

For my son, who is six, we would like to see him achieve fluency by the time he graduates from highschool - this includes both reading and writing. Ideally, you'd come to our house twice a week.
