I would like to move to Brazil part time and teach English. I am a beginner although I speak very conversationa l Brazilian Portuguese with friends. I'm particularly uncomfortable with my pronounciatio n, grammer, and comprehension . I have 9 months to learn and I'm attempting to immerse myself with reading Brazilian newspapers, music, films, televison programs, radio, books, and flashcards. I have not begun to learn portuguese as of yet. I have always been interested in learning Portuguese and now it would be a great help in a career transition from Army to Federal Police. As previously stated I will be learning from scratch. How long it takes to learn fluent Portuguese is not important. But It will have to be part time as I am working full time.

I have been learning Portuguese through extensive travel in Brazil. I am a fluent Spanish major at a university here in Portland, and am now fairly profficient in speaking and reading Portuguese. My main difficulties lie in basic grammatical errors due to learning only through listening and using a similar, but not entirely correct, Spanish format for what I have not picked up through conversation based learning. I would like to learn to speak more fluently because I speak other languages and have traveled throughout countries where foriegn languages are spoken, but I have never had such an amazing connection with a culture or language as I experienced during my time in Brazil. I would like to spend two to three days a week practicing grammar and speaking with a teacher who is open to speaking with me and helping me with my errors. I would hope that this individual would be as interested in teaching the language as I would be in learning it.

I am a beginning/int ermediate Brazilian Portuguese speaker. I lived with a family in Pedro Velho, a small town about an hour inland from Natal for six months in 2004, and learned everthing I could in the total immersion style. I had studied Spanish in school and went to Brazil speaking no Portuguese at all. During my time there, I spoke nothing but Portuguese and learned a lot, but I have since forgotten much, and I know there are many things that I learned incorrectly to begin with. I hope to go back and visit my host family some day soon, but I really want to be fluent before going back.
