I have no prior knowledge of Portuguese. I do, however, have a high level of fluency in Spanish. I am learning Portuguese for a 6 month stay I will have in Brazil, starting in September 2006. I want to focus particularly on grammar, as well as vocabularly and conversation practice. I'd like to meet with a language tutor about once a week. I would prefer to have a native speaker, and it would be great it if it's also someone who is fluent in Spanish. As I learn Portuguese I will most likely be referring back to Spanish, so it would be great for someone to explain Portuguese grammar in the context of Spanish grammar, which I can imagine has its similarities and is something I understand.

I am a beginner. I am learning Portuguese because I have traveled to the country before and it is a favorite of mine in Europe. I am planning another trip shortly and I would really like to be able to get around there. I primarily need to work on communication /conversation skills. I do need mind much to learn how to write it.
I am finishing a Masters program, which I have waited to learn Portuguese until after I was done with my program.
I would appreciate a teacher who would help me with the accent. I am aware that the Portuguese accent is one of the most difficult.
