Beginner, father is Brazilian and I was fluent as a child, but forgot it. I want to be able to speajk to my family in Brazil. I'm willing to put in part time studies as I work full time. My proficiency level is beginner...I only know words, but I don't know enough to talk to people...I want to learn fluent European Portuguese because I am marrying a Portuguese man and I can't talk to his family in Portugal because they don't know English. Also, we go to Portugal once a year, and I can't have conversations with anyone. I need improvement in conversation. I am willing to dedicate as much time as necessary to learn as quickly as possible. The most important quality that I would look for in a teacher is patience. I speak English and I have learned German, so this is very difficult for me because it's obviously completely different from German.

I don't know a word of Brazilian Portuguese. I used to speak Spanish almost proficiently many years ago (in high school). I am very proficient in French and I am fluent in Dutch. I want my teacher to be very open and supportive and warm and focus on conversation and pronunciation and vocabulary (and grammar obviously but I think my background in romance languages might help in that area). I want to travel and possibly work in Brazil...I am a law student so the only chance I would get to go to Brazil would be to work and to work there, I have to speak the language. So, I want to learn enough to be able to at least START working and then become more proficient as I am immersed.
