Hello,
I have been studying Swahili by myself for three weeks. I am planning to travel to East Africa at some point in the future. I am very interested in becomming fluent in the language, but I need help and can not do this by myself. I am seeking a native Swahili speaker to work with me one on one, on a weekly basis, in Chicago. I need a plan and structure for my learning, as there are so many rules and I seem to be scattered in my approach to grasping them. I do understand the different genders/class es, but need much practice and help.

My wife and I are moving to Tanzania in August of 2006 and are wanting to do extensive language school. We are planning on living in Tanzania after language school working on rural development and church planting. We are on a beginning swahili level. We only know a few conversationa l phrase at this point, but would love to become fluent, and would like to dedicate all our time the first six months to a year learning swahili. Thank you for your help.
Also we do not have to live in Dar es salaam. We are flexible to wherever the school is.

I was in tanzania as a volunteer for four weeks. I have decided to go back in one year and would like to learn swahili before going back. I learned very little swahili while i was there, basic greetings, please, polepole, and so forth. I am willing to dedicate as much time is needed to be fluent or near fluent in swahili in a year. I would like a teacher who is fluent and preferably a native so i will hear the correct flow of the language. Asante sana.
