My mother is Slovenian and we travel back and forth regularly but I do not speak the language. I very much want to be involved in an accelerated program to not only learn the basics of the language but become somewhat conversationa l. I am an absolute beginner who is interested in learning the slovenian language to better communicate with my relatives in Slovenia. I have basic knowledge of Czech. I am planning to go to Slovenia next summer, and would like to be able to communicate at least a little in slovenian!!! I would like to take a weekly or bi-weekly lesson - at night after work in Manhattan or on weekends in Brooklyn. I need someone patient - language is not my forte!!!!

I am a first-generat ion American. Both of my parents are Slovenian and immigrated to the United States in 1954. Sadly, I never learned to speak Slovenian as a child. I am now 30 years old, married, and have a baby daughter. My wife and I are both interested in learning to speak Slovenian. I know a few words and phrases and have a fair understanding of the pronunciation from listening to my parents, but I am definitely a beginner. My wife and I live in Brooklyn and would like to take lessons weekly or every two weeks at first. We are both very serious about learning and felt that a personal teacher rather than book/tape instruction would provide more incentive.
