LOOKING FOR CLASSROOM SETTING TO LEARN JAPANESE IN ENGLISH
I' m an ABC that grew up in both US and Taiwan, and can read and write in both languages, although in comparison, my English is superior.
I took a few quarters of Japanese in college so I know some basic conversationa l Japanese as well as hiragana and katagana, but as I am conducting business in Japan soon, I need to brush up on my Japanese as well as learn terms to conduct business.
While I know quality learning is performed on a one-on-one basis, to make new friends as well as make learning sessions more interesting, I'd prefer to learn in a classroom setting. Since my English is better than my Chinese, I would prefer to learn Japanese in English rather than Japanese to minimize confusion. I have studied 3 1/2 years of Mandarin Chinese, including 2 months in Beijing with Princeton in Beijing.I studied 1 1/2 years of Japanese and have studied a little Korean on my own. I am particularly interested in studying Chinese. I live in Keelung, and most teachers seem to be in Taipei. Because of this, I think I would have to do a lot of online learning, unless I could find a reasonable priced tutor who could come to Keelung. I would like maybe an hour or so per week in person, with maybe an additional 1-2 hours online or by phone. Right now I would just like to be able to communicate and live comfortably in Taiwan, but I am thinking of a career in translation.

I am seeking a native Japanese speaker to tutor me in Japanese conversation and grammar once a week or more, live in person, for the duration of this summer 2004. I studied Japanese for three years in college and spent a year near Tokyo teaching English, but since this was years ago, I would like to brush up on my Japanese proficiency.
