I studied Japanese for 5 years in college but have not used it since and forgot everything. I plan to take the Japanese proficiency test a year or two from now and go to Japan as an English language teacher or find some other job there. I need a fairly unique approach because of my past experience with Japanese. I am also a professional conference interpreter and learn foreign languages easily, so I will be doing most of the work myself. I am looking for a tutor for one or two times a week for an extended period of time. I would like to concentrate on the modern language: movies, news, magazines, etc. Because my goal is to find a job in Japan, I need to know both the spoken language and Kanji.

Beginner. I have been practicing Aikido in Houston for almost three years and I find the Japanese culture to be quite fasinating. I have wanted to learn a second language for some time now and figured Japanese would be the best place to start considering my current interests. I would like to start with an hour a week, and willing to put in outside practice with other speaking persons during the week. In having talked to several people about lessons, I feel it important to learn how the language works rather than memorizing names of animals and pronouns. I am not looking to learn Japanese overnight, so all of the 'fast' Japanese courses do not interest me.
