Hello,
I am currently enrolled in a Mandarin Chinese class which is beginner level. The class meets once a week. 'New Chinese 300.'
I am learning this language because I have always been interested in it but did not have the time nor schedule to pursue this desire. I believe I need improvement in conversation as that is the level I am currently at. I dedicate at least 30 minutes per day except the class day which is much longer. If I am lucky I try for an hour it just depends on how my schedule is going. It is very tight.
The qualities I am looking for in the tutor/teacher is expertise, fluency in the language and the ability to help me succeed.

Hello,
I just returned from Taiwan where I lived with my husband for a year and a half. We lived in Chiayi County, in Puhzih City. Very few people in Puzih speak English so I was very motivated to learn Chinese. I taught conversationa l English at a H.S. there and loved it. The students and other teachers all wanted to teach me Chinese as well. I studied Mandarin Chinese for a year utilizing the bo po mo fo system with a private tutor for about 1.5 hours per week provided by my husband's company- GE. I was able to understand basic conversation and ask and answer simple questions before we moved back to the states. I would very much like to continue studying Chinese. I need improvement in all alspects including conversation and sentence structure. I have the second half of the book she used and am continueing studying on my own, but I miss conversing in Chinese.

I am interested in learning Mandarin Chinese. I taught English in China, but did not learn Mandarin. I would like to someday go back to China and teach but with a working knowledge of Chinese language, history and culture. I need a hands on and conversationa l approach but would also be interested in learning how to read the language as well.
