I'm a student at The Colorado College but will be home in the Boston area this summer. Although I understand basic Cantonese, I wish to learn Mandarin. I visted China last summer and found I could not communicate at all with the people. Being that I am Chinese, this was frustrating.. .not that my Cantonese was all that great either. Anyways, I was hoping to learn some basic Mandarin this summer and pass my college's the language requirement. I'd like to have an emphasis on conversation, but I also want to pass the test. Depending on the lesson's location, I'd like to meet 1-3 days a week. However, even with 1 lesson a week, I am self-motivate d and can work hard during the rest of the week.

I'm a recent college grad, with an intermediate knowledge of Chinese. I want to continue the studies I started in China, and am willing to dedicate several hours a week to actual class time (weekend or early evenings). I'm looking for a teacher that can give me the direction and conversationa l practice I need to overcome my 'mushy mouth' and tone errors. I also want a memorization and drill method to acquire the 3500 most essential characters in simplified Chinese. My teacher should be able to meet during non-tradition al work hours, be very strict about proper pronunciation , and be prepared to help me unlearn some sloppy grammar.

I've studied mandarin chinese for almost 2 years. I plan to go to China in late summer / early fall of 2005. I would like to spend this summer improving my conversation skillss -- speaking and listening. I can dedicated 3 to 5 hours a week for one-on-one study. My goal is to be able to more quickly and efficiently hold conversations on various subjects -- meal time conversation, likes and dislikes, personal interests, personal history, business and culture. I have a fair vocabulary; and I understand the basic grammer rules. However, speaking doesn't come naturally, and I have a terrible time understanding mandarin spoken to me. I'm looking for a teacher who can improvise in conversation, drill me on common conversation exchanges, enhance my vocabulary, correct my mistakes and offer some new colloqial expressions. No formal teaching materials are needed. Please contact me.

| Description |
I have just finished one years worth of college chinese (mandarin). So I am about the proficiency level of a high school student who has taken four years of chinese and work hard at it. We used the two text books 'Integrated Chinese' Level 1, Parts 1 and 2. They both focused on dialogues with only a few narratives. I am trying to find a class to learn all of the the 2nd year of college chinese so that I will be able to start the 3rd year of chinese in the fall. My college (UCSD) cancelled all but 1/3 of thier 2nd year chinese class that they were offering this summer.
If you can help me, let me know. I am looking to take classes in groups of 10 or more. I am looking to take classes from 4-9pm at night on weekdays (or 5-9pm). I have up to $1500 to pay for the whole summer or maybe... $1000 for 2/3 of the summer (i.e. ~6 weeks).
