I am a first generation Canadian of Azorean descent. I was brought up as an anglophone, therefore I would need to learn Portuguese from a beginner level. My grandmother in Sao Miguel recently passed away and I now realize how important it is for me to be able to communicate with my estranged family. Because I would like to become proficient in Portuguese as quickly as possible, I would like to dedicate a considerable amount of time to lessons. I am looking for a teacher who can offer me a degree of fluency if possible in conversationa l (Azorean) Portuguese or at least (Portugal) Portuguese. As I have grown up amongst Portuguese speakers without written training, I need instruction in verb tenses and the written language.

I'm interested in learning Portuguese for a couple of reasons. One my boyfriend is Portuguese and his family speaks it fluently, so i'd love to be able to understand and speak with them on that level, eventually. As well, we are planning to go to Portugal next year and I would love to understand the language and be able to get myself around.
I would need to start as a beginner. I understand the basics as far as masculine/fem inine but I don't know how to speak sentences and pick up the odd word here and there.
I'd like to do this on a part-time basis, possible in the evenings or even on weekends. I do have a full-time job so wouldnt want this to interfere with that.
I' m looking for a teacher who is willing to have much patience with me and is willing to put up with someone who may ask a ton of questions!

I am looking for lessons to improve my knowledge of Brazilian-Por tuguese. I will be travelling in Brazil for 6 weeks (from the end of February 2011'til early April 2011), and would like to have a good grasp of the language before I leave for this trip. I love learning new languages, and I speak some French, too.
I am a beginner and have only taken 6 classes, (I have some vocab and a few verbs, can speak in present tense,) but I learn very quickly. I especially want to be able to hold conversations with ease, but grammar and reading/writi ng are important to me as well. I have been trying to teach myself and it is difficult to learn with no help.
I would like to spend an hour or two per week, within an affordable price range of lessons, with a teacher who will challenge me and push me.
