I am a physician. Increasingly I am drawing upon a Polish-Americ an patient population. To better help these good people, I would like to learn to speak Polish.
I know a few words of Polish (taught to me by my patients), but I am uncertain of my pronunciation and grammar. I would like to speak polite and correct Polish. I am very much a beginner.
Because of limits on my time, I think that I would need to have private lessons. During part of the year, usually over the winter months, my work requires that I travel throughout New England. During those months I could not attend frequent lessons, but, during the remainder of the year, I could meet with someone perhaps twice a week. I would appreciate advice on how best to go forward. Should I have small group lessons, frequent private lessons, private lessons mixed with internet or group learning?
I am not a young man and perhaps I do not have the quick and retentive mind that I had as a youth. My progress may be slow. However, once I begin this study, I expect that I will continue for for the long term - probably for years - to gain proficiency.

I am leading a Habitat for Humanity Global Village (HFH GV) team to Gliwice, Poland this summer (2010)
I strongly believe in the HFH Global Village program. Not only does this program help build houses for people in need in the U.S. and around the world, it facilitates a sharing and understanding of cultures between people of different backgrounds.
I am interested in taking a few Polish lessons to be able to at least say hello, goodbye, please, and thank you while I am in Poland to be able to show respect to the people in Poland hosting our team and to show respect to the future homeowners we will be working with while we are in Gliwice. I live in Baltimore, MD but travel to DC on occasion.
