I am a beginner in Portuguese. (I have taken some Spanish classes which is similar to Portuguese). I am interested in learning Brazilian Portuguese because my husband is Brazilian-Ame rican. When we have children, I would like them to be bi-lingual in Portuguese and English. I will speak English and Andrew will speak Portuguese. I would like to understand what he's saying. Also, I would like to be able to speak to Andrew's grandmother in Brazilian Portuguese. I need improvement in all seven langugage areas of Brazilian Portuguese... speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation , grammar, reading, and writing. I would like a minimum of two hours a week of lessons. I am an English as a Foreign Language teacher, and although I like I structured lesson, I think I may learn more quickly if my lessons are more communicative ...focused especially on speaking and listening. My proficiency level was formerly Nikken 2, but I have become rusty over the past few years. I lived in Osaka from 1991-1995, and have an opportunity to enter Japanese business again in the insurance field.
As this new job will take me to the West Coast, I need to get my fluency up to a higher level, including reading and speaking skills.

I have studied Russian in High School and College. I need a refresher of grammar and practice in conversation for career advancement. I am willing to devote 12-15 hours per week to study, perhaps meeting once a week for an hour or two. I am looking for a very intense and focused teacher, who provides materials and pushes vocabulary acquisition and conversation skills as the basis of the teaching plan. Since I know essential Russian grammar, we don't need to waste time painstakingly going through the basics -- the case structures, the verb structure, etc. I just need serious conversations practice and vocabulary work.
