Recently became friends with a woman from China who currently lives in Pittsburgh. She speaks broken English. She has helped me learn some basic Mandarin and I have helped her with English. We talk on the phone several times a week and usually have a meal together once a week. Since I met her I desired to learn Mandarin so to better communicate with my friend. I purchased Chinese for Dummies and it has helped greatly. The book teaches pinyin. Unfortunately my friend is moving to Los Angeles shortly and I will lose her as a daily teacher. I have come to very much enjoy the challenge of learning Chinese and wish to continue with a proper teacher. I speak often in basic greetings with any Chinese person I meet. I have also attended a Chinese church by myself to meet more people. I am retired and do part time work so I have time to study. I need a patient teacher and would prefer a woman. My goal is to become proficient in speaking and eventually reading Chinese. I am looking for a teacher with professional experience.
