Description |
I'll keep it short and fast.
I want to learn Japanese because the culture interests me most. I have plans on going down the career path of an anthropologis t. I also have plans to go for Japan-Canada student exchange programs when I reach the acceptable age. My father has lived/worked in Japan and he also encourages/wi shes for me to learn this language.
So far, I know almost nothing. Save for Lvl 1 in Rosetta Stone and a few E-books here and there.

Description |
My name is Michael, and I recently discovered 2 years ago a love for languages. I was raised in an environment with a large emphasis on the importance of culture and civilization. However, I was not reared in a household which promoted the learning of second languages. I'm a student learning both Russian and Japanese while I'm pursuing a BA in linguistics at the University of Calgary. I have been taking language classes at the university, but I find that they do not focus on conversationa l communication . I also find that the importance of cultural context is ignored in pursuing language learning. Grammar is easy for me to comprehend, however, speaking and vocabulary is another issue.
Due to this reason, I am pursuing another path towards language learning. I am currently seeking private or small classroom lessons for Japanese. I am a keen learner, and would like to explore thinking in this language, as I have a desire to visit Japan eventually. I also hope that my degree in linguistics, paired with a good enough proficiency in my languages of choice, will aid me in my future career. I am a driven individual when it comes to my passions, and I believe I would be a rewarding student for those who find that of importance. My current proficiency in Japanese is at the beginner level, whereas my proficiency with Russian is bordering intermediate. My current priorities are on mastering Japanese to a level where I can independently travel and meet new people, learning more about the language. I would like to find a teacher that is passionate in promoting interest in the language, while providing a challenging environment that stimulates learning.
