I would like to learn Polish because the language is part fo my heritage. My mother is Polish (but born here), and my father is Canadian, so I was braught up with only English in our house. Although my Babcia and Dziadzio spoke polish, and had immigrated, we never were taught more then minor basics. I have a basic understanding of the language (I tend to understand a lot more then I can speak when I am around the language), but a strong understanding of our culture.
I would also like to learn Polish because I work in the social work field, and would love to be able to speak and help Polish clients.
I would like to learn concersationa l Polish.
I was hoping to do an hour lesson once every two weeks, with a ton of homework.

I want to learn Mandarin because my girlfriend and i hope soon to be my wife is Chinese and speaks Mandarin and English. I would like to be able to speak with her and her family in there natual language. We are plaining a visit to China next year and i would like very much to be able to talk to family members. I have learn some from my girlfriend but very little, I would say i'm Beginner. I would say i need improvments in all areas of speaking Mandarin. I can spend 1 to 2 hours a day to language lessons.

I'm a retired Professional Engineer and presently researching my heritage roots in Slovakia. The records that I need to access are in Slovak; in addition, I plan to visit Slovakia next summer to interview existing relatives. I'm a beginner in the Slovak language. During university, I took German which I did well at so I'm confident I can learn basic Slovak, as difficult as I know it may be. I would like to spend at least 10 hours a week in learning Slovak with the goal of being reasonably competent (not fluent though) by next June, 2010. My teacher must be patient, innovative and appreciate that I'm an engineer, not an arts student.
