I want to move to Europe some day, and Sweden is currently top on my list. I also want to get a true feel for language learning in general, because if I learn one, subsequent ones may come easier.
I am a beginner in Swedish, but I am familiar with a few very basic things about languages.
I need improvement in thinking in the language. I have the bad habit of having to think about everything I say, which is very bad.
Depen ding on the environment, around a half hour or more a day.
I want a teacher who knows what's important to teach early and what should come later. I want to function and think in the language before I start learning more complex rules and vocabulary.

I studied abroad in Istanbul, Turkey for the 2009-2010 school year. I went for a gap year after I graduated high school, and before I started college. At the time I was fairly proficient in Turkish, but, since it has been two years, I do not remember it very well. By the time I left Istanbul, I could easily read Alacakaranlik and Yeni Ay, and although I did not watch Turkish television, I watched all of my American television with Turkish subtitles. I am currently a sophomore in college, studying English Literature. My Qur'an/Islami c Studies professor is encouraging me to combine the two fields and consider studying Middle Eastern literature. I am still debating this, but if I do it, the first step I need to take is to recover my Turkish. I do not know how much time I would have to focus on this during the school year, but I should have plenty of time in the summer. More than anything else, I need to jog my memory. If I had to pick one particular area in which I need improvement, I would probably say vocabulary. While I would like to pick up speaking again, my main goal is obviously to read proficiently again.

I want to learn Portuguese in order to advance my college application and carrear options. I am fluent in Spanish so that might help a little in learning Portuguese, other than that a total beginner. I would mainly like to learn how to speak the language. I can dedicate one or two hours evey day and several hours on the weekend. I want a teacher that will work with me at a confortable pace and to provide a good learning experience.
