I am a PhD in ethnomusicolo gy studying music of eastern Africa, and I am looking to continue my study of Kiswahili for my research. I have completed two years of formal language study. I run a jewelry start-up (Bird & Stone) that funds microloans in Kenya with our profits. I just quit my corporate job to run this full-time so my budget may not allow me to go to classroom lessons in Manhattan.
My goal is to become proficient in Swahili over 2015 and learn: tenses, grammatical structure, and relevant vocabulary (business, agriculture, cities, etc) so I can speak with the locals instead of getting a translator.

I visited Zanzibar, Tanzania recently and plan on returning to the country after graduation to continue my volunteer efforts. I know very basic Swahili now, but no more than a few words. I am still in school, so the learning process will have to be slow, maybe 1-2 meet ups per week. Since I am on a student budget I need an affordable teacher.
