There are two reasons why I would like to learn proper Urdu. First, I want to improve my professional credentials by passing the Illinois Board of Education Urdu Fluency Exam. This certificate will legally allow me to teach English to Pakistani students. I would also serve as liason to the families in the school community.
On a personal level, I would like to enjoy all the Urdu literature and poetry that my parents have collected through the years. I would like to understand the subtle verse and prose.
In terms of my own language abilities in Urdu, I consider myself at an intermediate level - Verbally. I want to learn the proper grammar structures and the correct use of formal vs. informal language. Most importantly, I need to learn to read and write.
I would like to work with a tutor two or three times a week. I would like my lessons to be structured and organized. I am available for lessons between the hours of 5pm and 9pm Central Standard time. I have a web-cam and can scan & e-mail assignments.

I'm a beginner. My girlfriend is Chinese. She is originally from Chengdu. I will be traveling in 2010 to China to meet her parents & siblings. I would like to learn as much as possible before the trip in the hope of having basic conversations with her parents (they only speak Chinese and use the Chengdu dialect), as well as useful phrases for around town with vendors & strangers. I'm interested in taking classes in the evening during the week (preferably Monday-Thursd ay). A teacher that understands the Chengdu dialect would be a plus.
I would also like to learn some basic French for future for trips to France.
