Re:Greek Speakers, Help me please !!!!!!!
Hello Rafael! I think this book is Classical Greek, so it teaches the language of 2000 years ago. Modern Greek is very similar, and perhaps if you ultimately want to learn Modern Greek, knowing a little Classical Greek would help a lot. Only that Classical Greek grammar is more complicate than Modern Greek's. You can use the book Teach Yourself Greek. Hope that helps, bye bye!

Re:Double consonants
Hello cweb255! arigatou means thank you, it is made of the 5 hiraganas a-ri-ga-to-u. You have to pronounce each one separately. Something like this, ah-ree-gah-toh-oo, but pronounce it rapidly. kon nichi wa means good day, it is made of the 2 kanjis "kon" & "nichi", and the hiragana (ha) but it is used as a particle here and pronounced "wa". Double vowels are pronouced separately. For example, aoi means blue is pronounced ah-o-ee. Double consonants is a bit complex. If you know the hiragana tsu(tu), to make a consonant sound longer, just add a small tsu before the consonant that you want to elongate. For example, nakatta, that is na-ka-(small tsu)-ta. kon nichi wa isn't really a double consonant because they are separate kanjis. ko-n and ni-chi. Ok, I hope that helped, Bye bye.

Re:Double consonants
As far as I know there are no rules for when to use double vowels and consonants. Some words are simply spelled with a double letter, others aren't.
In terms of pronunciation, Japanese double consonants and vowels simply indicate that that sound should be doubled in length.

Re:Help with translation from Finnish
Hello Lynne, It has nothing to do with woods although the word "metsä" is mentioned. It is a proverb actually and means that "the wood" answers the same way that you shout to it. In other words if you behave rudly towards people they will behave rudly to you. If you are nice the others are nice too. Helena
