I started trying to learn Chinese about a year and a half ago but each time I find my self stopping for several months at a time. By the time I start again I have to relearn a lot of what I have previously learned. My biggest obstacle is that I started learning in an area where there were no Chinese people around and I have only had the opportunity to actually speak to someone on a couple of occasions. Therefore, I have very little confidence in what I have learned so far.
I feel I have a pretty good handle on pinyin (but I am sure my pronunciation is not that good to a native speaker's ears). My written skill is very weak. The book was learning with was focused on speaking. I can recognize some of the very common characters but the majority of what I can speak I cannot read.
Plea se don’t get me wrong, I am very serious about wanting to learn. I just feel I am at a point where I will not move any further in my learning trying to do it on my own.

I am a beginner and would like to advance my language studies. I would like to spend at least a few hours a week with a teacher one on one and subsequent days studying. Qualities I would like to see in a teacher are proficient knowledge of the language (if not native), a way to make learning fun and interesting. Areas I feel I need help in are conversationa l skills and stringing sentences together.

I am planning a trip to Thailand in March, 2006. I would like to learn as much of the Thai language as I can in 5 - 6 months before I visit. I was there 11 years ago. I am a beginner with a small knowledge of Thai. I will visit Thai and American friends there, in Bangkok. I would like to be able to speak a bit of the Thai language on this visit. Most of my friends speak English, but others don't. I'd like to be able to talk some basic Thai on this visit. I know this will make my week vacation in Thailand more enjoyable and rewarding. I would like to take a one on one tutorial class once a week, preferably during a weekday, during the day. I think the most important quality in a teacher is a good balance between patience and motivation

Hi,
I'm interested in improving my proficiency in French. I believe I'm an intermediate beginner. The areas in which I need particular improvements are conversation and writing. I would like to become bilingual not only for personal enrichment but for career advancement.
