| Description |
I received some excellent training in Korean at the Defense Language Institute courtesy of the Air Force. Unfortunately , I have not had the opportunity to study with an instructor since that time and my own self-study efforts have been ineffective. At one time my proficiency would probably have been considered high intermediate, but it has since slipped a good deal. I would like to refresh what I learned and improve my Korean language skills as I hope to spend some time in Korea in the future. I have always been particularly weak in speaking and listening though my reading was fairly strong. I am currently in the process of learning a new job and enrolling for college classes so I do not have a great deal of free time, but this is a skill I do not want to lose entirely and I could devote a few hours a week to language study.

I want to move to Korean in 3 years and open a business. I have been married to a Korean for 29 years, so I have a little knowledge of the language. I am able to read and write but I have trouble putting sentences together, and expressing thoughts. I currently spend from 2 -3 hours a day studying. My biggest obstacle I feel is pronunciation and grammar. My goal is to be 80% or more fluent within 3 years.

Proficiency Level: I have self studied for a few months and am comfortable with Hangeul and basic grammar and sentence structure. I know how to conjugate verbs into the basic informal polite (-yo), honourific polite (-seyo/-eusey o) and formal (-mnida/seumn ida). I've memorized a few hundred basic words and verbs as well. I'd still consider myself beginner as while I am a bit stronger in reading and writing, my level is still simplistic and I have trouble speaking and especially listening to average spoken Korean.
Wh y am I studying Korean: I first became introduced to Korea through several of its popular music groups, and from there have researched more about this wonderful country, its people, and its language and customs. There's a lot I have yet to learn and I look forward to my future learning.
Areas of improvement:
As I mentioned, I need a lot of improvement with my listening and speaking as I haven't really had anyone to practice with and I lack confidence. That and amassing a wider vocabulary and learning more complex grammar structure.
Time: Varied . I have recently changed employment and so my schedule is not yet set. As of right now I am free after 5pm and on weekends. I will update my schedule as soon as I find out.
Qualities I'm looking for in my lessons/teach er: I'd like someone who is open and flexible in their learning plan, but something structured enough I can stick to. If it was more of a private tutor, I'd like to also sometimes enjoy certain Korean cultural experiences as well if there are any local happenings, but this is not necessary, more of a side bonus.
