I want to learn Gaelic (Irish) because of the following reasons:
1) It was my grandmothers tongue.
2) I have an interest in Irish folklore and literature re: personal creative writing. Other related interests are early Celtic church history, and pre-church history. Ireland's relationship to Scotland particularly the Highlands.
3 ) I may want to attend university and complete Celtic studies in the medium to long term.
I am an absolute beginner. I do however want to maintain a goal oriented focus to language learning. I would like to sit formal examinations (if I am good enough), to consolidate my learning.
I would like a teacher who can guide my path, advise me on potential cultural studies as well, in relation to the above. I am assuming one lesson per week and my attendance at the Celtic Club on a Tuesday night for practice.
I want to dedicate however many hours per week is necessary to streamline my learning to prepare for a formal examination in maybe 12 to 18 months? I do not know what this would be.
Teache r qualities I am looking for: a nice friendly person with a sense of humour!

I have in the past taken three semesters of Irish and have some conversationa l experience outside of a classroom environment. Since time has past since then, I would rate my proficiency as beginner, but with the potential to quickly recover what I have lost. I have considerable training in linguistics and speak French and Spanish in addition to English.
I am looking to improve in both written, aural, and oral competency.
My reason for learning Irish is three-fold: academic interest, general interest, and career advancement.
I would like to dedicate as much time as possible, but in earnest, weekly lessons seem most feasible.
I am looking for either small group lessons or one-on-one instruction. Native Irish Speaker is a must, obviously. My previous instructor was from Donegal, and therefore that dialect is the one I am most familiar with. However, I am also flexible in learning new dialects, and would only stand to benefit from the exposure.
