I am interested in learning some basic conversationa l Spanish to give myself some footing before I go backpacking all over South/Central America. I will be leaving Ottawa, Canada shortly after Christmas and will be spending upwards of 8 months travelling down South.
I realize that my Spanish will improve while I am traveling but I would feel a lot better if I had a somewhat strong grasp of the language and vocabulary before I am alone in a foreign country.
I would prefer to be in a larger classroom as I am not particularly interested in spending a boat-load of money on these classes (I've noticed that a lot of adds on this site range from $15-$20 an hour, which is a little steep for me).
Any options would be greatly appreciated

Hola,
I am a beginner. I have not had any official lessons but have purchased cds such as visual links and many books.I am not making enough progress. My goal is to be able to speak enough spanish to get by in Cuba. I want to be able to put sentences together. I don't expect to be able to have an deep meaningful conversation although I would like that. Without the ability to actually submerge myself into a spanish culture for quite some time I can't imagine learning everything. However I am passionate about leaning.
