Hello,
I am very interested in learning Russian. I am a beginner, despite having studied Russian informally for several years, including the Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone courses, several books, and having been married to a Russian woman for over four years.
My priority is to be able to be involved in conversation with Russian speakers, so as not to be left out of social situations and family gatherings. However, I also wish to learn the fundamentals, grammar, and to read and write.
I am able to sound out words from the cyrillic alphabet, to puzzle out what the general topic of conversation is, and to engage in simple conversations , the typical ones taught by language programs, which don't get you very far in real life.
My wife is willing to tutor me to some extent, but she is not a teacher and doesn't know how to prepare and present material for most effective learning.
I have several good books to build on, including grammar guides, verb books, dual-language readers, course books for Russian language, etc.
