I have a girlfriend who is vietnamese and her parents have expressed for me to learn in order to communicate with the family. Even though I spent close to 2 years in Chiang Mai Thailand recently, I would have to say that I am definitely a beginner with just a few words knowledge of Thai.
I plan on returning to Chiang Mai soon and would like to have a commanding knowledge of the language. If not a commanding knowledge then a fairly good understanding of the elementary practices of it.
