I've studied mandarin chinese for almost 2 years. I plan to go to China in late summer / early fall of 2005. I would like to spend this summer improving my conversation skillss -- speaking and listening. I can dedicated 3 to 5 hours a week for one-on-one study. My goal is to be able to more quickly and efficiently hold conversations on various subjects -- meal time conversation, likes and dislikes, personal interests, personal history, business and culture. I have a fair vocabulary; and I understand the basic grammer rules. However, speaking doesn't come naturally, and I have a terrible time understanding mandarin spoken to me. I'm looking for a teacher who can improvise in conversation, drill me on common conversation exchanges, enhance my vocabulary, correct my mistakes and offer some new colloqial expressions. Need classes/lesso ns right away! I am a beginner who currently is going over basic vocabulary through online tools. I real am excited about spending a semester aboard in Rome, and would like to really adapt to the Italian way of life. I would like to be able to communicate well with native Italian. I am willing to put forth all my effort in the next three months to really concentrate on learning Italian. I would like to meet at least once a week or more for lessons/week starting as soon as possible.

I am a social worker in the Phoenix area who would like improve my conversationa l skills to be able to work with Spanish speaking clients. I graduated with a Spanish major and did some study abroad in Spain and Peru but have not used Spanish on a daily basis in several years. I would like to work with an instructor intensively for a short amount of time to refresh my language skills and build my fluency to be able to use Spanish in my workplace. I have just finished one years worth of college chinese (mandarin). So I am about the proficiency level of a high school student who has taken four years of chinese and work hard at it. We used the two text books 'Integrated Chinese' Level 1, Parts 1 and 2. They both focused on dialogues with only a few narratives.
I am trying to find a class to learn all of the the 2nd year of college chinese so that I will be able to start the 3rd year of chinese in the fall. My college (UCSD) cancelled all but 1/3 of thier 2nd year chinese class that they were offering this summer.
If you can help me, let me know. I am looking to take classes in groups of 10 or more. I am looking to take classes from 4-9pm at night on weekdays (or 5-9pm). I have up to $1500 to pay for the whole summer or maybe... $1000 for 2/3 of the summer (i.e. ~6 weeks).
