Hi,
I am Chinese (Cantonese speaking at home) and learned Mandarin for 8 years when I was young and another 2 years when I was in college. I have lost a lot of my skills because of lack of practice. I have a good foundation and am still able to read, write, and speak basic Chinese Mandarin.
I am interested in private lessons to re-build my Mandarin language abilities: reading, writing, speaking. I also want to feel confident in speaking Mandarin and eventually in a work setting.
I am in Philadelphia only during the weekdays. As such, I would like my lessons:
- 1-2 times a week
- 1 hour for each lesson
- Only Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening
I am looking for a teacher that is a Native speaker that has previous experience teaching language and is patient yet pushes me/encourages me.
Also, I would like to understand:
1) How you structure your class
2) Will I be required to purchase study materials / books?
3) Where do you teach?
4) How much do your lessons cost per hour?

I was born in China but moved here when I was 7. I only took first grade there but I was still able to continue a conversation. But now that I have no one to talk to in Chinese, other than my mom, my Chinese has really dropped. I can still understand very well but my speaking, writing, and reading skills have went down.
I just want to have the ablity to speak so when I go back, I can talk with my family. My reading skills have gone down but I can still looks at familiar characters and have an idea what it means. My writing skills is horrible but I can still sound out the pinying to type and as I said earlier, I can still recognize common characters.
I am looking for a teacher that will work with my pace and my knowledge. I am a quick learner but there are times I have to slow down to fully understand. And I would like a teacher who challenges me a little without completly throwing me out in the open. I also want a teacher who is fun and can make learning as fun as possible but still pack the lesson in. In person would be the best for me but you're working on just my speaking skills, video chat would also be fine.

I want to lear chinese because of work benefit and interest in the chinese culture. I'm a beginner and I need to improve of course everything. I want to visit a lesson 1-3 times a week if possible, but I'm very flexible as long as it is after 6pm. A native speaker would be great.

My son had a Russian Nanny as he was two months premature and I worked full time. At one point he could understand most of what is discussed in Russian and could talk with confidence in Russian. Since going to Kindergarden he is losing his ability to speak and understand Russian due to lack of use.
I believe a second language is important to learn.
His proficiency level would be a beginner. I couldn't say what areas he needs improvement because I do not speak the language myself.
I would like my son to get lessons at least once if not twice a week.
Able to have fun and still advance my son's language capabilities.
My son is well behaved and enjoys learning.
