This is an inquiry to see if there would be any interest in one of your instructors driving to Murphys, Calaveras County every week (2 ½ hours each way) to teach a small class (not yet assembled) of 6 to 10 students, Mandarin Chinese. These students would be ages 11 to 13 and I was thinking Fridays ( 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm) and again on Saturday morning (8:00 am to 12:00 noon), if that’s what would get them fluent.

I would like to learn Latin or Greek because I am studying Philosophy. It seems very beneficial to learn these languages for studying the classics, both for the mind in general and for a more holistic understanding of the writings. It is a dream of mine to read Plato in the original Greek. I have basically no knowledge of either of these languages, aside from the technical terms I have learned within Philosophy classes. Face-to-face contact with the teacher is a must, as learning seldom used languages (in our area at least) online seems like a waste of time. I do not have particular qualities that I seek in a teacher, but some knowledge of classical Philosophy of course would be desirable. From what I know most Latin teachers give St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and other philosophical ly relevant texts to learn from. Otherwise the teacher is the teacher and the student must not demand too much, or else the teacher's job becomes harder.

Vietnamese was my first language but I stopped speaking the language after I attended school. My parents wanted us to speak English with them so they could learn and I never went back to speaking Vietnamese. I understand south Vietnamese unless it's about history, geography, politics or names. I do not know how to read or write Vietnamese unless it's a restaurant menu. I want to learn how to read and write it to support my speaking the language. I would need to work on my conversation and grammar as I've been told that I speak like a child since I am trying to speak it the way I remember. I would hope to spend about 2-3 times a week for at least an hour or more. I can work independently but I would want to make contact with my tutor at least once a week or more. I am looking for a teacher who will make the lesson interesting at a beginner's level. I attempted to learn the alphabet from my Mom over the holidays and really struggled.
