TAGALOG WH-QUESTIONS AND

by happymagnet calalay

Who-questions AND “BA”
WHAT=ANO
WHO=SINO
WHERE= SAAN OR NASAAN
WHEN= KAILAN
HOW=PAANO
HOW MUCH=MAGKANO
HOW MANY=ILAN
WHOSE=KANINO

TAGALOG WH-QUESTIONS are also in the beginning of the sentence the same as in English sentence.

EXAMPLE:
What is your name? (Ano ang iyong pangalan?
Or Ano ang pangalan mo?)
Who are you?( Sino ka?)
Where do you live? ( Saan ka nakatira?)
When is your birthday? (Kailan ang iyong kaarawan?)
How to cook food? ( Paano magluto ng pagkain?)
How many days before Christmas?( Ilang araw bago ang pasko?)
Whose pen is this? (Kaninong lapis ito?)

But not all questions start with WH-questions.
EXAMPLE
Is she angry? Galit ba siya?
Do you love me? Mahal mo ba ako?
Does she care about you? Siya ba ay may malasakit sa iyo?
Can you do this for me? Maaari mo bang gawin ito para sa akin?
Will you marry me? Pakakasalan mo ba ako?

You use “BA” if you ask something other than WH-questions.
But sometimes “BA” is also in the WH-questions to intensify or give more emphasize about the thing you are asking.

Saan ka? Where are you?
Saan ka na? Where are you at?
Saan ka na ba?

Saan ka?..your mood here is calm and fine
Saan ka na? you are asking the person his/her exact location
Saan ka na ba? this time, you are a bit angry or disappointed

“Saan ka na ba? Bakit matagal kang makarating dito”
“Where are you? Why you take so long to come here”

“Am I right?” Tama ba ako?
“What do you really like?” Ano ba talaga ang gusto mo?

“Are you okay? Please tell me”
Okay ka ba? Pakiusap, sabihin mo sa akin.

“Saan ka ba pupunta ka? Gabing-gabi na kung aalis ka”
Where are you going? It’s already late if you want to leave.

“Are you really good in programming”
Talaga bang magaling ka sa programming?

But there are some rules where to put “BA” in your sentence.
