In order to teach my students Swahili I will use communicative methods and blend it with other methods which I will use them as techniques depends on the level of my students Swahili knowledge so as to make my students to enjoy and understand what I teach them.
The techniques which I will use will depends on level of my students knowledge of Swahili. These methods are grammar-trans lation methods, direct methods, community language.
Fo r example; If I will be given a beginners class I will first choose which techniques fit for my class and it will help me and my students to learn and understand what they are being taught and measure my students understanding through those techniques which I will select. For beginners class I will use communicative method and grammar-trans lation techniques where by I will introduce my students into a Swahili class by telling them how simple and easy to learn Swahili Language, and telling them a little bit of Swahili people and their culture and after that I will introduce some few grammar- translation words which are easy and are commonly used by Swahili people daily like different types of greetings depending on age, places and time. Also other simple grammar-trans lation words which are used in different occasion, time, places, names, foods, objects, flower etc, and we will perform various test and group assignments to test our performance on what we learned from each classes and after that we will progress from simple to complex grammar- translation words after they mastered them I will introduce simple sentences by using words which we learned from our previous classes; and we will continue to practice them by doing different activities such as singing, dancing, drawing, reading, dictation, pronunciation of words and tests so as to help my students master what they have been learning from the beginning.
F or intermediate I will use communicative methods and other methods which I will use them as my techniques to help me teach my students and help them understand what they are being taught by me. In this class I will not use grammar-trans lation method as I used it in my beginners class but I will choose communicative methods and direct methods techniques, audio techniques, and a complex grammar sentences which are long. In direct approach or technique I will teach my students direct by using Swahili language and my students will need to use Swahili language in the class in all activities which we will conduct in our class and all four language skills will be used to teach and measure my students capacity of understanding what they are being taught so they will read, write, talk and listen in Swahili language and different activities such as singing, group discussion , works and tests will be in Swahili. In audio approach they will do dictation assignments or works, they will listen to audio text or songs and try to give ideas on what they understood in that text or songs which they listened, and we will perform various communicative activities such as performing poems and drama. And in all periods which we will meet at the end of the class or semester they will have test or exams to measure their knowledge and understanding of Swahili language.
Fo r intermediate here we will use communicative method where by any activities in class will be performed in Swahili and here all techniques such as audio technique, community technique, direct technique will be applied and here we will learn Swahili language for communication purpose and we will do different activities such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening where by it will be performed inside and outside the class as our aim here is to master all four skills of language so we will be in group discussion, engage in Swahili Lang activities such as listening to Swahili songs, news, reading Swahili books and at the end of the semester they will be given test to test their ability of they have master all for language skills
