I am a Compassionate an motivating teacher. My main approach to teaching is through the communicative method. This means that I find it most important to teach students how to communicate in important or everyday situations. Since everyday situations aren't always serious and formal interactions, we also will focus on being able to express yourself on topics that you find fun and important. To keep you involved in language learning we will be looking at music videos, clips from tv shows, funny videos, simple news paper articles, and stories, and other current content to help you fall in love with learning english while you learn it.

My program is one-on-one tutoring, so the classes will be changed based on need. Overall, I aim to keep my lessons fun and current. We will be using some classic work sheets, but a lot of activities will involve fun video clips, stories, games, creating dialogues, and free flowing conversation. I believe that having fun and feeling proud of your ability to communicate, are two things that will boost your language skills at a faster speed, thus my lessons will be as interactive as they possibly can be. Because of the lesson structures, it is prefered to meet up face to face or skype call for lessons.

I am currently recieveing my TEFL certification , but I also tutored elementary school and pre-school level students in Kunming, China in 2018.

- I completed my Bachelors degree (BA) in East Asian Studies and Government at Smith College in 2019
- Studied mandarin and chinese culture at Yunnan University of Nationalities Kunming, China in 2018
- Interned at the Barnard Center for Toddler Development as an assitant teacher in 2014
- Currently on track to complete my TEFL certification for teaching ESL with CIEE by the end of 2019

My teaching schedule is fairly flexible. I am free all day Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Thursday's and Fridays I am available after 5 EST. My teaching schedule will depend on what ends up being convenient for both the student and I. I do not need to be paid for this experience. I do value my teaching ability, however I ask that instead of paying me, my student will fill out an evaluation form for my TEFL certification practicum.
I have been on both the side of the English tutor, and on the side of the language learner. I've spent four years of my life learning mandarin under all types of learning environments. .. one-on-one tutors, private language center classes, larger university classes, immersive classes in China, and etc. I think on top of my prior experiences and knoweldge of ESL and educational theory, I am extemely empathetic towards language learners and will be able to apply that to my tutoring.
