    Teaching Approach

Young children are able to learn a foreign language in somewhat the same way that native speakers learn it. That is, by immersion. It is good, therefore, to teach young children by means of vocabulary drills, reading, and listening, and give them some speaking and writing. Some things that can assist with learning through vocabulary, reading, and listening are pictures, comprehension questions, and stories that are already known by the children in their native language. Children can learn a foreign language better if they can put images and feelings to the words and sentences, and can associate the new language with people, places, events, and things in their own lives. The teacher can give students opportunities outside the classroom to practise speaking with the new language.

Middle and high school students may have been studying English for many years, so they may already have a considerable amount of English in their minds. Giving students many opportunities to write and speak in English is a good strategy. Writing and speaking reinforce the language students have already learnt, help them put structure to it, and enable them to become active users of it. This strategy enables the teacher to know and build on what students already know in their native language and in English: students can learn more effectively if the new language in the classroom relates to and can easily be joined with the things they already know in their native language and in English. Writing and speaking are open ended activities, so lower level students can do the minimum required and higher level students also have the opportunity to increase their English ability. Vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening are also important in the classroom both in themselves and to assist students with writing and speaking by means of good examples and useful content.

A dult students must be taken more on a case by case basis. The teacher should first find out the English level of the prospective student and the particular reasons why the student wants to study English. The teacher should then develop a plan, activities, and material in consultation with the student. As a general rule, however, adults learn better by writing and speaking with new vocabulary and grammar than by reading and listening. The teacher should use material that is both interesting and helps the student directly connect the new language with things in the world (not via their native language), e.g. pictures and the actual objects themselves.

    Frequently Asked Questions

I am available to teach any time on Monday to Saturday and after 3pm on Sunday.

My payment policy is students can pay at the end of each lesson for the first month. After one month, it is better if they pay in advance every two weeks or every month.

My other relevant experience includes visiting many places in the world, such as Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, and Spain. I lived with Chinese students when I was a seminarian and worked with Chinese students at Pizza Hut. My study of Korean includes learning the Chinese characters Korean words come from, so I am also able to read and write some Chinese and Japanese words.
