I believe it is important to be able to read and write a foreign language, and think that seeing words written down helps to fix the language inside the head of the learner.
My approach is one of support and encouragement . Having lived abroad myself, where I needed to learn a foreign language, has given me the ability to "put myself in the learner's shoes" and to appreciate how difficult it is for people to learn another language when they are not fully immersed in that language each and every day.
I have a calm and relaxed style of teaching, and empathise with the learner.
I enunciate clearly and work at the pace of the learner, always explaining and using examples to assist understanding .

Program Description

I am a qualified Further Education teacher with a Bachelor of Education and post graduate diploma in special needs. I have a TEFL qualification and have taught overseas in Brasil and Kuwait. I also have an MBA and worked in Business for many years.
My lessons are based on individual needs and pace. Usually, I base my lessons around a topical subject which the learner can find out about easily (something from the news or everyday life) and we build up vocabulary through conversation and explanation. I conduct the entire lesson in English, and encourage the learner to think in English.
I like to set some homework after the class to consolidate what was learnt, and for the learner to do a bit of preparation in readiness for the next lesson. I believe that this speeds up the learning process.

When are you available?
I am flexible with regard to the times and days offered, depending on the needs of the learner(s). The lessons are usually of one hour's duration.
How do I pay and when do I pay?
Payme nt is made through "Paypal" in advance of the lesson(s).
What are you like?
I am an experienced, mature, female teacher of English who has a friendly and affable approach. I am from London, and speak with a London accent, but I have lived and taught in various places, at home and abroad.
Wh at would we talk about?
I base the subjects of lessons around any topic which is inoffensive and impersonal. Usually, I bring material to the lesson which I devise, but if the learner wants to base the lessons around particular vocabulary and subjects, then that is fine.
Do I have to do homework?
I think that learning occurs faster if you do some private work outside of the classes, but this is entirely up to you, and I am not here to tell you what you should and shouldn't do!
Are the lessons just conversationa l?
If we use a "Skype" format for the lesson, then it would be conversationa l. However, if the learner does work outside of the class, this would be written, and we would discuss this at the following meeting.
