    Teaching Approach

I prefer focusing on grammar and pronounciatio n as separate parts of learning English. When introducing conversationa l English, it is best to not speak their native language, and ask them through gestures to put away notepads and repeat words, do role-play or play games. Once students understand the structure of sentences with the sounds of the target language and their meaning, it is easier to elaborate on the details of the form of the sentences. Using visuals allows a universal understanding of a language to be built up, paving the way for greater retained memory of the association of a concept with the sounds and intonations.

    Program Description

I believe that guided discovery is a very effective way of reinforcing target language, through the use of gestures and aids to elicit answers and correct errors. Contrastive analysis works in getting the students to understand two different scenarios where the appropriate target language is used to convey a different state of being, reinforcing the opposite meanings. Using props found in a room is helpful in introducing the sounds and meanings of everyday words. This is all needed before spelling or reading skills, which should come after mastery of the sounds and meanings of the basic structure of a sentence.

    Teaching Experience

I have experience in tutoring a Bangladeshi girl who is staying at my parents' house, where I guided her through understanding the phonetics of some English vowel sounds and how they can be spelt. I also helped her through some of the grammar of the tenses of English verbs.
