I have been teaching Spanish as a foreign language for two years, during which time I have worked in a secondary school, a monastery and several language schools, as well as particular students. I would now like further my teaching experience with other students.
I have gained a lot of useful knowledge through my teaching experience, such as how important it is to have a unique approach to different students. Although I mainly teach groups of 2 to 12 students, aged from 11 to 47, I always focus on each individual’s level and needs. Sometimes different exercises can have different results on various students, and so I’ve learnt that it is important to be spontaneous and think on your feet.
When it comes to my teaching methods I use a number of different techniques, such as listening exercises, games, and teaching specific tricks to help the students remember the grammar. But the most important method for teaching my students the language, besides having a good atmosphere in the classroom, is speaking. I always emphasize the importance of just speaking, even commiting mistakes, and encourage them to talk, with classroom activities around exactly that. After all, in my opinion, speaking is the most effective way to learn a different language.
