Teaching Approach

I rely upon the methodology developed by the experts but not entirely. I require students to read and I provide reading material to suit the individual student's current competence. I also require students to write - even for the youngest - as a means of developing vocabulary. My lessons for children include a variety of activities including colouring, games and songs; while I may be retired, I am still a 'kid at heart'. This approach makes the learning experience very enjoyable for all concerned and encourages children to use what they learn. I have several 'graduates' who have successfully met English School standards and been accepted. This is the real evidence of success.

I offer lessons from my residence located in Ostratu Corbeannca; about a ten minute drive north of Otopeni Airport.

Program Description

I am Canadian by nationality and now a permanent resident of Romania. I am a native English speaker, former Canadian Diplomat (35 years service) and currently have over 15 students benefiting from a competent and professional language training course. I use a Cambridge University approved methodology that has proven results. I particularly enjoy teaching to children - my current student mix ranges from 5 yr old Beginners to mature adults seeking to perfect their language ability for reasons of business. While the methodology of Kid's Box or Language in Use are standard, I tailor each course to meet the specific needs of each student. I offer classes to as many as four but never more. My private courses are most often selected by my students as they tend to be more effective.

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching English for two years in Bucharest. I have extensive training experience with my former employer; Citizenship and Immigration Canada and was regularly called upon to participate in the delivery of training courses ranging from Investigative Techniques to Advanced Management Skills. I recently successfully completed extensive training in French so I fully appreciate the needs and stresses placed upon language students - particularly mature students with family and business obligations that must be accomodated.

Frequently Asked Questions

My schedule extends from 9:30 in the morning to 9:30 in the evening Monday to Friday. Lessons on Saturday are accepted should circumstances demand. Cash payment is preferred on a 'pay as you play; basis.
You will find my methodology most effective and the overall experience most agreeable.

My extensive Management Experience is a bonus to mature students who wish to improve their English for business reasons. I do not limit my scope to simply correcting grammatical errors - I teach how to write effectively in English. For many Romanians, this training is vital in their quest to improve both written and oral communication .

Cost of Lessons

I ask for 80 RON per hour for a private lesson. Lessons for mature students are generally 1.5 hours; for children, 1 hour. Payment is generally made on a per lesson basis.
